Avast Professional\Home: How to Disable the NNTP Scanner
Solution
By shutting down the NNTP scanning in Avast you will be able to again access the Grabit Search Functions as well as the Grabit Browse functions.
These instructions apply to Avast Home and Professional on Window XP Profession, Windows XP Home, Windows XP Media Center Edition and Windows XP Professional x64
Direction
1. Double Click the Avast icon in the system tray.
2. If the simple interface appears right click and select `Switch to Enhanced User Interface`.
3. From the right side list of scanner option select `Internet Mail`
4. Under the `Provider Configuration` select the `Customize` button.
5. Click on the `NNTP` Tab and deselect the following
`Scan inbound News`
`Scan outbound News`
6. You will now be able to use the search and browse functions.
7. With the NNTP Scanner turned off, insure that you have the `Scan files on opening` checked in Avast.
8. You can check this by going to the list of scanner and selecting the `Standard Shield` option.
9. Under the `Provider Configuration` select the `Customize` button.
10. Select the `Scanner (Advanced)` tab and check the following:
`Scan file on Open`
`Scan created\modified files|All Files`
